Jodie Foster banned Mel Gibson from the premiere of their new movie The Beaver.
The long-delayed dark comedy which Foster directed premiered last night at the South by Southwest Film Festival.
And sources say Gibson was kept away so he didn’t overshadow the event and turn it into a circus.
“Having him attend was just going to be too big of a risk. He could have gotten booed on the red carpet before the film even began,” an insider told PopEater.
“Everyone including Jodie decided it would be better if Mel didn’t attend.
“Jodie got up and introduced the film and got a huge round of applause, but that didn’t mean the film executives were not sweating what would happen the first time Mel came on screen.”
Jodie recently insisted Gibson is an “incredibly loving and sensitive
” person despite his recent troubles.
“He’s so incredibly loving and sensitive, he really is. He is the most loved actor I have ever worked with on a movie,” she said.
“And he’s not saintly, and he’s got a big mouth, and he’ll do gross things your nephew would do. But I knew the minute I met him that I would love him the rest of my life.”
